It’s almost 3 weeks since i had the operation, so 3 more weeks, and i should be able to start working out.

For now i’m just taking it easy and gathering all my strength.

Really can’t wait to start training again! I’ve been out for too long, but luckily for me i’m naturally fit so it won’t take long to get back to my normal fitness…

My day began early because I had to collect my visa from the Danish embassy – I came home and packed for what was to be the most important 2 weeks of my life. Everything was going well until I missed my flight, but luckily I got a later flight. “I guess my dream would have to wait for 2 more hours,” I thought.

…3 flights later I finally reached my destination Hjørring. I got a very warm welcome from one of my good friends Portia Modise who plays for the same club, so my transition from South Africa to Denmark was not so bad. Then came training the next day where I met the coach and the team who were very welcoming. Then training started which is where my troubles began…

A few days before I left I had a training session where I fell and hurt my right knee, but it wasn’t too sore so I didn’t take it seriously not up until that morning when I started running. I was in so much pain I had to stop. I later went to see the doctor who told me the tissues in my knee were swollen so I just needed to rest it for a week then I could start training the next week. So I rested hoping it would heal.

I rested but after a week it was not better, instead it just kept on getting sore every day. Although everyone was supportive and encouraging me not to give up , it was hard because time was not on my side, the days were going by very fast, and my 2 weeks were over.  I hoped and prayed, but it was just not meant to be. I watched my dream crumble right in front of my eyes, and there was nothing I could do about it.

I came home, it was difficult, but life had other plans for me. I now had to concentrate on getting better. I’m young and I’ll have other opportunities, and this time I’ll be physically as well as mentally ready…

Lesson learned: Things might not go as planned, but you can NEVER GIVE UP – with the support of my family and friends I can overcome anything.
